What is 4Cs of a diamond?

The 4Cs — cut, color, clarity and carat weight— offers a useful starting point while purchasing a diamond. It represents the essential elements for a diamond’s beauty and structure. “The 4Cs of a diamond” was established in 1940s by Gemological Institute of America (GIA) along with the International Diamond Grading System, which is the most well-known and widely used scale. Each of the C’s are graded on a scale, and can be evaluated for quality. Each of 4Cs interacts with one another within a diamond as a comprehensive whole to determine to for a diamond’s value and beauty.

However, we need to keep in mind that every diamond has a unique exceptional beauty. Two diamonds with the same laboratory grades may covey the different kind of beauty. Therefore, we recommend using the 4C grade only as a guide and not a base to make your entire purchase off of. You should purchase diamonds with the help and guidance of experts in the field.

Cut

Out of 4Cs, Cut has the greatest influence on a diamond ’s beauty and sparkle.Diamond Cut specifically refers to the quality of a diamond’s brilliance,  fire, scintillation, angles, proportions, symmetrical facets, and overall craftmanship.

Color

Color of a diamond is the second most significant factor to consider when you make a purchase. Diamonds are colored when the crystals grow inside the earth. Tiny traces of some elements like nitrogen can color the crystals.

Clarity

The clarity of a diamond is a measure of small imperfection on the surface and within the stone. Before diving into why those tiny imperfection occurs within the diamonds, let’s see how diamonds are formed in nature. Diamonds are the purest form of transparent carbon.

Carat

Carat, last but not least, is also the important factor to consider when you purchase diamonds. Carat is the weight of the diamond, not to be wrong with the size which is measured in millimeters. One carat of diamond weighs 200 milligrams or 0.2grams.
